OUR EDITORIAL PROCESS
Stories submitted to Flash Me Magazine are processed by our administrative staff and then posted to our secure staff board in manageable batches. All stories are read blind by at least four editors. They review each story, assign it a YES, NO, or MAYBE designation, and provide comments explaining their decision.
Stories receiving six YES votes automatically appear in the next issue of the magazine. Less than one percent of the stories submitted to FMM are accepted outright.
Stories receiving three NO votes are rejected. Rejection letters include selected comments from our editors. We strive to offer honest, tactful feedback explaining our decision. All comments are the opinions of our editors and are subjective. We are one of the few markets that offers editorial feedback with rejection letters, and we continue to do so because the majority of authors seem to appreciate knowing why we passed on their story. We encourage authors to submit their stories elsewhere, as other editors may have different opinions.
Stories receiving mixed responses from our editors may be placed in a hold queue for re-evaluation at the end of the current submission period. The final decision whether to hold a story for voting or reject it is made by the Editor-in-Chief or the Senior Managing Editor. Authors will be notified if their stories are held for voting.
Only after all stories are selected for the issue will the staff vote on the Feature Story, in order to make the selection process as fair as possible.
This process takes time, but we feel it provides a fair method to carefully evaluate all submissions and provide our readers with the best stories of those received during each submission period. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding this process, and thank you for submitting your story to Flash Me Magazine.
