| WHAT'S NEW? |
We will be holding another Flash for BIG Cash fundraiser contest!!! The contest will run between January 1, 2008 and February 15, 2008. Most of the same rules apply from last year's contest, but with one big change. You can now get the judges' feedback on your entry, for a small fee. The contest, like last year, is to raise money for the magazine. There is a $5 entry fee, but BIG cash prizes. Visit the contest rules for more information and get those stories ready!
We are planning an all fantasy issue for October 2008. Beginning January 1, 2008, we will be accepting fantasy stories for our October 2008. This is a one-time themed issue, coinciding with the World Fantasy Convention. Authors wishing to submit stories for this special issue must follow our fantasy issue guidelines. All submissions must be received by July 31, 2008.
We will be transitioning from a free, online magazine to a subscription-only magazine. In 2004 we created a PDF subscription version to raise funds for the magazine. The proceeds allowed us to start paying all of our authors for their work. We want to make the leap from being just a paying market to being a professional one that pays professional rates, and to do that we need to increase our budget. To do so, we need to switch to a subscription-only magazine. We will still publish our Feature Story online, and announce the stories and authors in each issue, as well as all news and special features. We realize that this is a huge change for our readers, but we feel the benefits outweigh the downsides. We plan to make the transition as easy as possible for our readers. First and foremost, the October 31 2008 PDF issue will be available for free to all readers. (Current subscribers will receive a free issue to compensate for this.) We believe once our readers see the PDF format, they’ll agree it’s worth the subscription. Click here to download Issue 18's PDF for free!
We will be attending Archon 32 in 2008. Archon is a convention heard annually in the St. Louis, MO area and in 2008 Flash Me Magazine will be there. We plan to have a dealer table manned by FMM staff where we will sell CDs containing all four 2008 PDF issues. If you plan to attend the convention, make plans to stop by and see us! Click here to learn more about Archon.
We will also be attending the 2008 World Fantasy Convention. Next year's WFC will be held in Calgary and Flash Me Magazine will be there. We plan to have a dealer table manned by FMM staff where we will sell CDs containing all four 2008 PDF issues. You'll be able to meet the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor, as well as register for drawings. If you plan to attend the WFC, make plans to stop by and see us! We are putting together our first anthology in 2008. It will be filled with stories we’ve published in our first five years of publication, including Feature Story winners, quarterly poll winners, and staff favorites from July 31, 2003 to April 30, 2008. We will contact authors via email next July. Authors who agree to reprint their stories in the anthology will receive free copies. We expect to offer the anthology in trade paperback and PDF formats and all proceeds will help support the magazine.
We will now be doing book reviews. All books must be collections of flash fiction works. Interested authors must email us for more information. Reviews will be emailed to the author for approval first, and then published in our PDF subscription.
We have several open positions! We are currently looking for editors, another admin assistant to handle our rejection letters, and a development staff to join our team. We're looking for people who enjoy reading a wide variety of fiction and who have the time to devote to the magazine. All of our staff works on a volunteer basis and enthusiasm is more important than any experience. If interested, please email us.

| INTERVIEW |
This quarter our PDF issue features an interview with Flash Me Magazine's Associate Editor, Jennifer Crow.
Here's an excerpt:
"I'm a voracious reader--I love books about history, crime, and science on the nonfiction side of things, and I enjoy all kinds of fiction, though I have a fondness for works with speculative elements."
